A ex-convict charged with fatally stabbing a Valley Village woman on July 24 was arrested by Mexican authorities and turned over Tuesday night to Los Angeles police. According to law enforcement sources, Mexican authorities had been working with the U.S. Marshals service and the Los Angeles Police Department. Omar Armando Loera allegedly fled to Mexico after the July slaying of Cheree Osmanhodzic. He was charged in September in absentia with one count each of murder, burglary, arson, and assault with a deadly weapon. He was also charged with the special circumstances of murder during a burglary and arson.
According to Penal Code 187, murder is defined as the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought. The penalties for murder in the first degree are punished by death, imprisonment in the state prison for life without the possibility of parole, or imprisonment in the state prison for a term of 25 years to life.
