Man Pistol Whipped During Home Invasion Robbery

On Wednesday January 11, 2012 a home invasion robbery took place in the Universal City area at the home of Harry Mathis, 78.

Mathis was pulling into his garage when he was approached by a gunman. His wife and neighbor were already being held at gunpoint inside the home.

Mathis, who was a retired Navy submarine captain, was carrying a gun he had a permit for, and shot two shots at the robbers but missed.

The robbers fled with money and set fire to cars inside the garage as they left.

Mathis was pistol whipped and suffered some injury.

The police are still in pursuit of the robbers.
