Rapper T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were arrested this month in Los Angeles for alleged possession of a controlled substance. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's arrest report, during a traffic stop in West Hollywood involving Tip, 29, and Cottle, 36, “deputies smelled a strong odor of Marijuana emitting from the vehicle.”Following a narcotics investigation, the rapper and his wife were “found to have a controlled substance.” Both T.I. and Tiny were booked on felony possession of a controlled substance, and bail was set at $10,000 each.

The rapper is currently on probation after serving seven months in prison on federal weapons charges. According to the Associated Press, he would be violating his probation if he committed another federal, state, or local crime or illegally possessed a controlled substance. The pills found in T.I.'s vehicle tested positive for a type of Ecstasy, and the case has now been turned over to the District Attorney's office.

Under California Law, there are four main types of drug charges: drug possession, drug possession for sale, drug trafficking, and manufacturing drugs. Drug offense penalties can be severe. The drug charges will depend on the type and quantity of the drugs involved, whether the drugs were for sale or personal use, and if the defendant has a criminal record.
